MEET OUR FOUNDER

Empower the Girls was founded by Ellen Claire van Olden, a passionate leader with over 30 years of expertise in self-protection and life coaching. Ellen’s journey began as both a mother and a dedicated advocate for empowering women. When her own daughters prepared to leave for college, she realized how vital it was to equip them – and other young women – with practical safety strategies and life skills. This inspired her to launch Empower the Girls in 2012

Drawing on decades of experience in the safety and security industry, as well as mentorship from world-renowned experts in violence prevention, Ellen’s approach integrates life skills that extend far beyond self-defense. She incorporates mental conditioning, self-awareness, and practical tools that help young women navigate any challenge with confidence. Her father, Roland Ouellette, a global expert and the found of MOAB® Training International, has been a key influence shaping the program.

Ellen’s impact has reached countless parents, schools, and campuses where her teachings have become a trusted resource. “Ellen van Olden is my new hero! Her presentation was incredibly powerful, and all of our attendees were blown away,” share an event organizer for a teacher-parent conference. “Ellen is an inspiration to a whole new generation.”

In addition to her work with Empower the Girls, Ellen Claire is a marathon runner, triathlete, and advocate for mental and emotional strength, using her athletic experience to emphasize resilience in her teachings. Her dynamic programs continue to evolve, empowering young women across the country to live fearlessly and take control of their lives.
